‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ is the jubilant cry from the lips of the children when Jesus arrives at the temple in Jerusalem. He is clearly the king who would bring salvation, as God promised in Psalm 118. But while the crowds respond in proper adulation, the chief priests and scribes prove to be corrupt and wicked once again. As a sign to the permanent judgement on Israel’s rulers, Jesus puts a stop to the dishonouring activities taking place in the temple.
