In John 13:1–20, Jesus’ act of washing his disciples’ feet during Passover points directly to the cross. It’s a moment filled with love, humility, and divine purpose — ‘he loved them to the end’. As he moves toward betrayal by Judas and the suffering of the cross, Jesus remains composed, courageous, and convicted. He knows he has come from the Father and is returning to the Father, and he serves with deep love. Not one of us is truly qualified to receive this grace — yet in Christ, each of us is. Jesus says, ‘I have given you an example…’ and invites us into the blessing and privilege of following his way of self-giving love.
