Paul’s letter to the Galatians is a serious and urgent call to Christians who are being captured by a false gospel that threatens their salvation. At the outset Paul must remind the Galatians of the authentic gospel that saved them: one of radical rescue and of radical grace. It is the gracious work of the Lord Jesus – and no contribution from man – that has rescued them from this ‘present evil age’. The stakes could not be higher. To desert this gospel is to desert the God of the gospel. And anyone who dares to preach another gospel than this gospel of grace deserves to be damned.
