Isaiah 40 opens a section of the book that tells Israel what they need to know as they prepare to leave the safety of Jerusalem for a stay in a hostile and chaotic world. And Isaiah begins with the most basic reassurance of all: we have a very big God. In fact, our God is so big that there is no outside for him.
