What should we do once we have been reassured that we really are God’s family? This passage opens the final main section of the letter and gives John’s big answer: the right outbox for confident, reassured children is to love one another. It reflects the God we belong to, it’s the sign he really is accomplishing his work amongst us, and it shows we’ve decided that we’re here to stay.
