What does it mean for the church to be fit for purpose? In 1 Timothy 3, Paul sets out a vision for leaders whose lives reflect the gospel and for a church that holds it out to the world. Character, integrity, and order matter—not for their own sake, but because the church is God’s household, the pillar and foundation of the truth. At the centre is the mystery of godliness: Christ himself, revealed, proclaimed, and believed on. This is what the church must protect, embody, and display.
