Through the martyrdom of James, the imprisonment and miraculous release of Peter, and the death of Herod, Luke shows us that in all circumstances, however bleak, God’s word triumphs. God works as he sees fit to protect the servants of his word. God works as he sees fit to overthrow the enemies of his word. This should give us great confidence to pray, to trust, and to speak. It should also move us to that appropriate biblical response—fear.
