We like to consider ourselves liberated souls, free of restraints, making independent choices out of a free will. The evidence suggests otherwise. Indeed, the reality of sin and death in every man or woman’s life indicates the universal imprisonment of humanity. There is, however, an alternative master—righteousness! If we submit ourselves to Jesus’ mastery we will find ourselves not only truly free, but truly human.
